John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
We begin our month of grace looking at Jesus Himself, Who is full of grace and truth. Before we get into the devotion we need to define grace. In the Bible, grace is God’s kindness, favor, or goodwill towards humanity when we didn’t deserve it or earn it. It is a gift that is freely given by Him, through His Son.
The beginning of this verse says the Word became flesh. The Word (Logos) is Jesus. We learned that in John 1:1. God came into this world personally as Jesus. And He dwelt amongst the people, bringing them hope, healing, and finally restoration through salvation. He gave His life to satisfy the blood requirement for atonement and rose from the grave three days later, conquering death once and for all (Hebrews 2:14; 1 Corinthians 15:54).
Can you imagine what it must have been like to be with Jesus, to be touched by Him, healed by His hands, to sit at His feet and listen….? I am envious of those who had that opportunity! They saw His glory in person, before their eyes. He took on a physical form and walked alongside them, performing miracles and teaching us how to live a holy life.
And finally, He is full of grace and truth. We see His grace in our lives. We experience it daily, even when we are not paying attention or are unaware. I admit that often I don’t pay attention and I miss seeing His grace in my own life. But He continues to bless me, to provide for my family, and He loves all of us greatly. His truth, God’s faithfulness, integrity, and revelation of what is real walked amongst them.
This month we will do a deep dive into the Bible to find out more about His grace and truth. Today let’s focus on the gift of grace and be grateful for the blessings He rains down on us day after day.
