Devotion: Joshua 1:9

March 25, 2025

Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

If you have read any of our previous devotions you know that today’s verse has been explained before. And if you have not, then you might want to visit the Teens4Jesus.org website and search by the reference to see what has been covered prior to today.

In review, this verse is spoken to Joshua who was about to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. This should have been exciting, but it must have been frightening because we see words of encouragement spoken to them. In this encouragement we see words that reassure Joshua that he was not going alone. God would be with him always. He would never leave him nor forsake him, and He would be their strength in weakness.

What do we learn from it?

First, trust in God and His strength. He will fill you with boldness and strength. And He guides your steps. Trust Him to direct you as you move through each day. Trust Him to fill you with strength when you face challenges.

Next, we see encouragement regarding fear. We can overcome fear when we rely on God’s plan for our lives. We can be brave in the face of hardship because we know He is with us and fights our battles for us.

And finally, we have the promise that He is with us. His Presence is there and gives us comfort and peace, especially when we face hardship, struggle, or challenges. No matter how difficult the times may be, we can trust in the promise of His Presence.
