Luke 16:10 Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.
This verse may seem out of place amongst the others that tell us that we have a purpose. But it was chosen because it reminds us that He blesses us and trusts us with the blessings in our lives. We are stewards and need to be responsible in using them as He intends us to use them. Everything He gives us has a purpose and our use of it should be one of purpose, as well.
It reminds us that faithfulness in the small things in our lives demonstrates that we have a trustworthy character. He entrusts more to those who are faithful with little because we have proven that we are good stewards.
A steward (Greek oikonomos) is someone entrusted with managing another’s property or acts on their behalf. But we must remember, God is the provider and ultimately the owner of everything. We just have it and use it for a short time. As a steward we faithfully take care of and responsibly use God’s gifts. A good steward will use God’s gifts for His purpose, with intention. These gifts are used to further His purposes, for the benefit of His people.
Everything we have is a gift from God and we have received it for a purpose. The question is, are you using it for His glory or are you not being a responsible steward? Take some time to think about that today. Look at your own life and what you have and ask yourself how you are using things to benefit the church.
