Devotion: Luke 21:15

September 13, 2024

Luke 21:15 For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.

As believers, the one thing no one can argue with is our personal testimony. Even if they do not believe what we say, there is no denying that we have a personal story that we share. But what happens when you face circumstances where you are not sure how to respond? When facing trial or persecution, we also have supernatural power to help us speak truth. We have the Spirit that helps us know how to respond.

In this passage in Luke, Jesus reassures His disciples that when they face the authorities, because they would face hard times due to their beliefs, they would have help in responding. He told them they would be given words and wisdom to guide their response. They would not have to try to rely on human wisdom, but would be provided with the answers. They simply needed to trust Him to guide and provide. And no one would be able to contradict those words.

While this reassurance was given to the disciples, it is just as relevant and applicable to believers today. We can be encouraged by the promise that in trials and times when we are unsure of how to respond, He will help us. He will give us the wisdom needed to speak truth and the words to communicate effectively. We have the Spirit within us, and just like when we don’t have the words to pray ( Romans 8:26), He provides the words.

We don’t have to rehearse what to say (Luke 21:14), how to say things, or try to research it in advance. All we have to do is trust Him to help and believe He has the answers. Faith. And what is even more amazing about this is that those who hear and who cannot argue with or contradict the words spoken will see God’s hand at work. He will be glorified in this process.

Are you worrying about what you should say in certain situations? Whether you face persecution or not, the Spirit is ready to help you respond when needed.
