Devotion: Luke 6:28

Dec 19, 2025

Luke 6:28 …bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

It is so hard to do as we are told in today’s verse. It is so much easier to grumble about how unfair we are being treated, whining about the injustice we feel is being done to us. But it is not what we are told to do. We are to love others the way Christ loves us, regardless of whether we feel it is deserved or not.

When we choose to turn the other cheek and respond with blessings and prayer for them instead of harsh words, we show kindness. We give them something they do not expect – grace. Christ gave us grace when we did not deserve it and we are to show the same kindness to others.

Rather than cry over the mistreatment, stop and pray. It will take some discipline to do this because we naturally want to respond in the same manner in which they treat us, but we know this is the better way to react. And you will find that as you begin to pray for them your attitude will change. You may not have all the happy thoughts and feelings for them, but it still changes your attitude overall.

Think about who you can show kindness to today in prayer, someone who has cursed you or treated you poorly. Take them to God and ask Him to bless that person. Give them to God and ask Him to help you treat them with kindness.
