Devotion: Matthew 28:19-20

Sept. 27, 2025

Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

We finally reach the verse that has been cited numerous times this month and get to spend some time exploring the Great Commission itself, which is one of the core goals of Teens4Jesus Ministries.

Each of us has been given this commission and none of us are exempt. We are all called to go forth and make disciples of every nation. We have been instructed by Jesus who speaks with all authority to His disciples when He gives this commission and that message is to be spread and continued by all believers. As a believer we share with a few people who then share with a few more who then share with a few more and the ripple becomes a wave of repentance, salvation, and renewal throughout the world. Imagine how many lives we could reach with the Truth if each believer obeyed this commission and shared their faith with others…

But the commission does not say go forth and share and then you’ve done your part. It says MAKE DISCIPLES. We are to share and then walk alongside them in their faith, helping them grow and learn more. We are to train them, to be shepherds of His sheep. We have a job to do, a greater purpose than simply sharing our faith. We are making disciples. We are teaching them about grace and mercy, we are guiding them in seeking Truth, we are answering questions they have (or finding answers when we don’t have them).

Our purpose is duplication. We become a believer, we begin to grow and learn more, we learn to share our story, and we guide others to do the same. And as each one does this that ripple extends and grows bigger, reaching more and changing lives we never would have reached ourselves.

Do you see why the Great Commission is so important? Can you see the potential for life change when just a few of us obey? We don’t know how much longer we will be here and every day we choose to remain silent is another day of missed opportunities. Every person you engage with is a soul in need of Jesus’s love and encouragement. Don’t miss those chances to share! They may be a believer already and if so then you’ve found a brother or sister in Christ, so praise God! They may also be a believer who is struggling and needs encouragement. You never know if you don’t ask.

We need to get over our fear of asking and trust in Him to open doors. Trust that He will use you to fulfill His purpose. Let Him use you.
