Matthew 4:24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them.
There is nothing more powerful than the freedom that comes through Christ’s touch in your life. In today’s verse we see that Jesus’s earthly ministry was full of miracles with lives being forever changed by His healing touch. His fame spread all throughout the region and people flocked to Him for help. And He healed them all. We don’t see any instance in the Bible where Jesus said, “Nope. Not healing you. You are not worthy.” None were worthy, just as we are not worthy today. But He healed them regardless. And He transformed their lives in doing so.
Matthew gives us a few examples of the physical ailments that were presented to Him. We see various diseases and pains, which can include any number of conditions, demon-possession, epilepsy, and paralysis. It didn’t matter what affliction was presented to Him – He healed them of it and set them free to live a new life.
Each person brought before Jesus had faith in Him to perform miracles. The people who brought them had faith in Him to heal their family and friends. Faith was the foundation of belief for all involved. And because they all had faith in Him, He responded with love and compassion. His healing ministry gave us a glimpse of what is yet to come – His kingdom where there is no disease of affliction.
An interesting tidbit to add to today’s reading… The general understanding of disease at that time was that people were afflicted with disease or health conditions due to sin in their lives. Thus, the healing of the physical ailments was seen as forgiveness of sins. Jesus was able to heal every person brought to Him. No ailment or condition was too big for His healing touch. And the same is true for your sin. No sins are too big that He won’t forgive you.
Whether you suffer from a physical ailment or a spiritual one, come to Jesus today and ask Him to lay His healing hands upon your life. He is waiting and ready. All you have to do is come before Him.
