Devotion: Matthew 6:33

Sept. 20, 2025

Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

No matter what we believe our purpose is in life, we have a greater purpose in place. We are to do His will, not our own. His purpose should be first and foremost in our minds, not self-gain or personal aspirations. And we discover His will by seeking Him and His ways. This includes reading the Word, praying, and trusting Him to guide us in our endeavors.

When we seek His purpose instead of our own we make Him the priority in our lives. We give Him our plans, our interests, the relationships in our lives, everything we have and hold dear. He is our focus, not an afterthought. We embrace His plans and honor Him in our words and deeds. We bring Him glory when we share Him with the world, fulfilling the great commission we were given by Christ (Matthew 28:19).

We are assured that when we seek His kingdom first and His righteousness, He provides for us. He rewards our obedience, taking care of us and providing us with the physical needs. That doesn’t mean we do what we do just so we can receive. We receive because we have stepped out in faith to serve, to honor Him, to fulfill His purpose of seeing every nation reached with His message.

We have no need for anxiety or worry when we are seeking His greater purpose. We are free to focus on doing His work and serving others. We live a life that is dedicated to Him and His will, ushering in His kingdom. And we find not only are our physical needs met, but we are fulfilled spiritually.

Seek His purpose first and foremost and trust Him to care for you today. Let His purpose guide your steps as you move through your life. His ways are so much better than our own. Glorify Him in all you do.
