Philemon 1:4 I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers.
We have already talked about the importance of thanksgiving in our prayers. Today we look at something we can be thankful for when we do pray.
The book of Philemon (the shortest in the Bible) was written by Paul to Philemon to try to reconcile him with his runaway slave Onesimus. It was written while Paul was imprisoned and he encouraged Philemon, who was a wealthy man who owned slaves, to receive Onesimus back and to welcome him as a brother in Christ.
This verse serves as a model for us as believers. In it, we see Paul speaking of how he always gives thanks to God when he prays for Philemon. This is not the first time he mentioned someone he prayed for regularly. He was always praying for the believers in the various churches.
We should do the same with our brothers and sisters. We should be remembering them in our prayers, praying for their health and overall wellness. But we also need to be thanking God for them. We should remember all of our brothers and sisters with thanks when we are praying. I don’t know about you, but that is something I am not doing with my daily prayers, but after reading today’s verse I am going to start making efforts to do it.
Take your friends, family, and fellow believers to God with thanks today. Thank Him for each person in your life and for the relationships you have with each.
