Devotion: Philippians 4:6-7

July 31, 2024

Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Anxiety is an unwanted visitor in my life way more than it should be. Philippians 4:6 has been one of the verses that I quote to remind myself that I don’t need to be anxious or fearful. I need to give it to God instead. When we hide His Word in our hearts (Psalms 119:11) we are able to recall it in times of need. In my case, having verses like this serve as reminder that God is in control and worrying gets me nowhere. This is why memorizing Scripture is so important.

In the first few words of this passage, notice that it says don’t be anxious about ANYTHING. Nothing. In EVERY situation we should be praying and giving it to God, thanking Him for what He is doing in our lives. What happens when we turn to God with our anxiety and fear? He fills us with peace. And not just any peace but that which transcends all understanding. That is some amazing peace indeed! Peace that goes beyond our comprehension? It is definitely worth the thanksgiving!

Are you letting fear and anxiety hold you back? This month we have focused on fear, anxiety, and worry. Hopefully by this point you have a deeper understanding of the things that trigger your fears as well as how to respond using God’s Word.

Hide His Word in your heart, as I have done with Philippians 4:6, and let His peace wash over your life.
