Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.Over the past few days we have established the fact that God has given us a purpose for our lives. We aren’t just randomly placed on earth with no goals and no future. God has it in His hand and wants us to excel in it, with the help of His guiding Spirit.
In order to do this, we need to be seeking His will, His purpose. All of our actions need to be focused on His glory and living a life that is worthy of His calling for us. And that is where today’s verse comes in. Our actions, our plans, need to be aligned with His. We need to trust in His sovereignty and seek His ways, committing all we do to Him.
We are told to commit our plans to the Lord. Commit what we do – all of our actions – to Him and He will be at work in our plans. He will use all things for His glory (Romans 8:28) and will use our works to fulfill a greater purpose, for the benefit of others. When we commit our plans to Him, we also need to be trusting Him in working things out. He is the one who handles the outcomes, enabling us and empowering us to greatness.
Our plans should be something He would approve of. But the only way to know what that would be means we need to be in the Word daily, seeing what it is He has to reveal to us (Proverbs 3:5-6). We don’t know how to live a life worthy of Him if we don’t understand what His purpose is. And the only way to know that is to know Him.
He will establish our plans sounds like something we have no choice in, but that is not true. We choose daily how we will live, what we will do, and many times those choices do not align with His will. But He gives us direction. The Spirit fills us with His wisdom and guides our steps, but we need to be listening and obeying. We need to evaluate each thing we do with His mindset, which means turning to Him and trusting Him to show us.
When we are walking with God and living according to His purpose we have peace and contentment. We no longer find ourselves burdened by the woes of the world. Today let’s give it all to Him, commit it to His purpose, and live a life worthy of His calling for our lives.
