Proverbs 19:8 The one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper.
I love to learn. Maybe it is because I was a teacher for years, maybe it is that I simply love knowledge and acquiring new facts and insights. I cannot get enough. I am always reading, always seeking new things, and continuously learning. And that makes today’s proverb one that appeals to me.
On day one of this month’s theme we learned that wisdom begins with God (Proverbs 1:7). We rely on the Spirit to guide us and reveal truth and wisdom to us (1 Corinthians 2:14) and we grow spiritually in the process (Hebrews 5:14). And today’s passage shows us that whoever gets wisdom loves life. We get wisdom from God and are filled with His light, His love. We then overflow and bless others. And there is nothing more rewarding than serving others or filling them up. It is no wonder we live life when we do this!
And just like with tithing, giving spiritually to others, cherishing that wisdom and sharing it with others results in blessings and prosperity. It may not be prosperity in the sense the world views prosperity as being, but we prosper spiritually instead.
