Proverbs 24:10 If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength!
Anxiety is one of the most common mental disorders in the United States and affects more than forty million adults. That is quite a large number. And that does not include youth or children, who also suffer from anxiety, perhaps even more so given the stress of school and the need to fit in.
This month we will be exploring anxiety and our response to it, as outlined in God’s Word.
We begin with a proverb. Upon first look this proverb seems to be saying you have no strength if you can’t handle times of trouble. But we shouldn’t interpret this as saying you are a failure if you can’t handle troublesome situations. Difficulty in life is a given. It is inevitable (Psalms 20:1; Psalms 86:6; Ecclesiastes 8:6; John 16:33).
Instead of thinking we are failing, it indicates that we may not be as strong as we think. In order for us to be successful, we need assistance to help us overcome. We should see this verse as a reminder that we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength (Philippians 4:13).
Anxiety is not our master. It is not weakness. It is something we CAN be free of. It does not mean we are weak or feeble or a failure. Do not give in to those lies from the enemy. Change your thinking now. Today. Philippians 4:13 should be your memorization verse this month. “I can do ALL things through Christ who gives us strength.”
