Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your hearts and lean not on your own understanding…

Ah. Another one of my life verses that I came to heavily rely on throughout my life. It is a verse that gave me encouragement when I wasn’t sure which direction to go. And what is interesting? I find myself taking comfort from this verse yet again, all of these years later. In my opinion that goes to show just how powerful and relevant God’s Word is at all stages of life.

Trust can be hard for some people, but when you add “with all your heart,” it ups the ante significantly. We are being called to trust God in everything, not just in those things we feel secure in already (since that’s not trust at all) or those things we are currently experiencing. Instead we are being told to trust God in ALL things, with our  whole being.

So what can we learn from this often quoted verse? We can learn quite a bit!

As humans we are fallible. We make mistakes. That is why as Christians we should seek God’s will for our lives and then put our trust in Him to guide us in the way we should go. Because often what appears to be the best choice for us is not always so. We don’t see the whole picture, God’s plan. We only see the immediate situation. Consider Abraham as an example. He  took his only son up the mountain as God instructed and was willing to sacrifice him. Luckily this was NOT God’s plan and He provided a sacrifice before Abraham killed Isaac. Had it been me, I fear we would not have even made it TO the mountain, much less UP it.. But Abraham trusted God with all his heart and did not rely on his own understanding.

Are you trusting in God with your whole heart? Or are you trying to do things on your own? God has a plan for your life (Jeremiah 29:11) and wants to see you succeed and excel. He wants to bless you when you turn to Him wholeheartedly, not just partially.

Today let’s set side self and our desires and trust God to work HIS plan for our lives. Trust Him with ALL of your heart. And then watch what an amazing plan He has for you as it unfolds before your eyes, His perfect and beautiful plan.
