Devotion: Psalm 112:7

July 1, 2024

Psalms 112:7 They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.

The enemy thrives on our fear. His goal is to confuse us and cripple us with fear, anxiety, stress, and worry. He comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). The Apostle Peter said the enemy is like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:6). But fear, anxiety, and everything else, do not come from God, so they do not hold power over us.

We should have no fear because we have a God who is mightier than fear. Our God does not speak fear but brings restoration from the things that frighten us or make us anxious. Remember – God Is love (1 John 4:8). He loves us and cares for every need we have (2 Corinthians 9:8). Everything He does is for us, from a place of love because He IS love.

There are other verses in the Bible that speak of being steadfast. We see it in both the Old and New Testament. Psalms 57:7 shows us further usage of the term in relation to our faith. The author even emphasizes it – “My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast” (Psalms 57:7).

So what does it mean when it says to be steadfast? That means we are firm or fixed and unmoving. Since this term is being used in connection to our faith, we are firm in our faith and we are fixed or unwavering. Our hearts should be steadfast and our trust in the Lord.

Set aside your fears. Free yourself from the things holding you back this month. Today is our first day of the theme “Have No Fear” and is intended to introduce the topic. Each day we will dig deep into the verses and learn more about living a life free from fear. Begin praying today for the Holy Spirit to soften your hearts and to show you His love and message.
