Devotion: Psalm 147:11

Jan 28, 2026

Psalm 147:11 …the Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.

As we approach the end of the month there is much we have learned about obedience and how we should live our lives as believers. But we have a few more days of learning to go and much more to cover still! So let’s dive into today’s verse and see what message God has for us today.

The Lord delights in those who fear Him… As we have discussed before, fear in this case is not the emotional response to the Lord where we feel scared or afraid. It is reverence and awe of God that we experience instead. We show Him the respect that He alone deserves and we follow His commands, obeying what He is calling us to do.

He also delights in those who put their hope in Him. He loves us and wants the best for us, wanting to see us obediently walk in His ways. He has a plan for our lives and loves when we seek Him to learn what His will is for us. Walking in His will sometimes takes faith and requires us to step out in obedience even when we are not sure where we are going or how we will get there (Proverbs 3:5-6).

In the Bible, delight refers to one who experiences great pleasure, satisfaction, and joy from something or someone. Isn’t that beautiful? Knowing that God looks at us and finds great pleasure in our actions, that our obedience fills Him with joy and satisfaction. What an amazing thought. Not only does He love us endlessly and want to see us thrive, but he takes delight in our obedience! We transform our own desires to align with His and He delights in us.

Last point. His love is unfailing. It is always there, never ending. It doesn’t change, ever. Nothing we do can ever change His love for us. It will never fail us and we can take delight in that, the same way He delights in us. It is a wonderful reminder of just how full of grace and love He is.

What is one area of your life where you can surrender to Him and place your hope in His unfailing love?

Prayer: Lord, Thank You for showering me with Your unfailing love. May my actions give You delight each day as I choose to be an obedient child of God. Amen
