Psalm 18:49 Therefore I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name.
Again we have a verse that doesn’t SAY thankful, grateful, or gratitude in it, but we know that everything we do should come from a place of gratitude. And today’s verse is done with just that. The theme of this verse IS gratitude and David feels it deeply as he sings this psalm to the Lord and the nations.
Everything we have, everything we are, is due to Him and what He has done for us. Psalm 18 was written by David as thanks to God for saving him from his enemies, in this case, from King Saul. David recognized that his salvation by God was not of his own works, but directly from the Lord. And he poured out his heartfelt gratitude in a psalm of praise as response.
Not only did David create a beautiful, heartfelt psalm of praise and thanksgiving, but he declared it before the nations. He did not hide it away or keep it for himself. He was bold in declaring his thanks and praises to God before others. He was so grateful to God for saving him that he wanted to share that thanks and gratitude with the world and teach them of the Lord who saves.
This should be our default response to everything. We know we did nothing on our to receive what we have received – it is all through His grace and mercy that we have been saved and set free. Our gratitude should be evident to the world, to anyone who looks at us. They should see our love and gratitude reflected in every action we engage in, every word we say, everything we are.
What about you? Are you ready to declare His praises publicly and among the nations? We have all been commissioned to go forth and share (Matthew 28:19). Are you being obedient and declaring your thanks while you do that?
