Psalm 27:13 I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Today we have another verse that speaks of a confidence we can have in God, this time pulled from the book of Psalms. David was the author of this psalm. Prior to today’s verse, David spoke of being forsaken by family (Psalm 27:10) and oppressed. He mentioned false witnesses rising up against him (Psalm 27:12).
Despite all of this, despite the negativity in his life, the troubles he was facing, the lies being spoken about him, he remained steadfast in his faith. He had confidence in God and His plan. He knew God would carry him through and he would see goodness once more.
I don’t know about you, but for me trials are not the times I exercise confidence. Yes, I know God has a plan, and yes, I know He is at work and my life is in His hands. I have faith in those promises. But I am a worrier. I trust He will bring me through, but I still worry about everything during those trials.
The past few days we have explored verses that give us hope for our future, for eternity and heaven. Today, though, we look at a verse that promises hope for our time on earth. David says he will see the goodness of the Lord, of His work in our lives, in the land of the living.
We can have hope for the future. But we should also have hope for now, for our time spent here before we spend eternity with Him. Our faith is rooted in the belief we have in God when we face hardship (Hebrews 11:1). When we face those rough times, we should seek Him as David often did in the psalms he wrote.
Let David be an example for you when you face hard times. Cry out to God. Seek Him and His faithful help when you struggle and feel hopelessness creeping in. And be confident in His goodness here on earth. It’s what He wants for each of us. Trust Him.
