Devotion: Psalm 27:14

March 15, 2025

Psalm 27:14 Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

This psalm starts out with one of the most challenging statements for many of us – wait. Wait on the Lord. Wait on Him and don’t try to do things on your own or in your timeline. Wait for God to work, for His timing, for His perfect plan for us. Waiting is hard, though, especially when the world around us seems to be crashing down, when the walls are squeezing in, when it feels unbearable and we fear we will break if things don’t change.

But we CAN wait. We CAN be strong and trust in His plan. We CAN put our confidence in Him to be working. It may not feel like it at the time, but take heart, friend. All things are possible with Him (Matthew 19:26). And He never rushes things because He already knows the outcome and He knows what lessons we need to learn in the meantime.

We live in what many call a fast-food society – we want it our way, right away. We expect an immediate response to our prayers. But God doesn’t work that way. And the Bible is full of other times we are told to wait, to wait on God, to wait on His goodness, His mercy, His response. And though waiting is the message, we still want it our way, right away. We ignore the admonition to wait, to be patient, to call on the Lord and trust in His response.

Are you waiting on the Lord or are you trying to forge ahead in impatience? Pause today and thank God for working in your life. Take the time to remind yourself to wait. Wait on God. Wait on His promises. Wait on His goodness. Wait on His timeline and His plan. He has a plan that will be worked out perfectly and completely, if we would only pause and wait.
