Devotion: Psalm 32:5

May 23, 2025

Psalm 32:5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord .” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.

Psalm 32 is another that was written by David. It is a powerful psalm and one that can bring you great hope and encouragement. Take a few minutes to read through the entire psalm to get a feel for the context from which today’s verse is taken.

It begins with acknowledging one’s sins, we must take responsibility for our transgressions and wrongdoing. We need to acknowledge the sins in our lives so that we can confess them. We accept that we are wrong and have gone against His will and admit that we are in the wrong. We cannot hide from them. We cannot cover them up. No matter how hard we try, they are there, a crimson stain in our lives and they disrupt our fellowship with God.

But when we confess our sin He is faithful to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. That forgiveness happens immediately. It is not delayed until a thorough review is done or until He gives you time to change your mind or sin again. It is immediate and complete. We don’t have to wait and wonder. It happens as soon as we confess and repent.

Once we confess and are forgiven, fellowship with God is restored.  Our relationship with God is restored, just as David’s relationship was. Confession is a very important part of maintaining that relationship since we know we will sin again and sin separates us from God. We need to be continuously seeking Him and confessing sins in our life.

Let this verse be the encouragement you need to confess your own sins and make changes in your life that help you walk in His ways. Acknowledge your wrongdoing, confess and repent, and then praise Him for the blessings He showers upon you.
