Devotion: Psalm 37:4

Sept. 24, 2025

Psalm 37:4 Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

When we have a purpose in life, life is good. Good things happen to us and for us because we are doing what He has called us to do, we are seeking Him and His greater purpose for things and as a result we are walking in His ways. And we do this by taking delight in the Lord.

But what exactly does that mean? How do we take delight in the Lord and how do we know we are doing His will?

To take delight in the Lord we find joy, peace, and satisfaction in God. We value the Giver more than we value the things in our lives. Our desires align with His own which brings us joy and contentment, and we begin to see our heart transform to reflect His purpose and His goodness. Our longings begin to reflect His will and the purpose that He bestows upon us.

As we find joy in the Lord and delight in His ways, we are given a promise that He will give us the desires of our heart. These desires don’t guarantee us physical gain or measurable rewards, but He provides us with something far greater and more valuable. He fills us with joy, peace, contentment, confidence, trust. He rains down blessings upon us and fills us to overflowing. These are all things HE does for us, things He alone can give. It is not something we work for or earn, but a grace filled blessing upon our lives.

Today let’s make the conscious effort to delight in the Lord. Turn to Him as your source of strength and comfort, your joy, your ultimate peace. Choose to delight in Him and seek His ways. Trust in Him to guide your footsteps and know with full confidence that He holds you securely in His hands. Delight in Him and let Him fill your life with the desires of your heart.
