Devotion: Psalm 96:8

February 28, 2025

Psalm 96:8 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts.

Upon first glance, I wasn’t entirely sure what was meant by “ascribe.” The basic premise of ascribe means to attribute something (a particular quality or characteristic) to someone. In this case we are attributing glory to God.

This verse may make more sense to you in other translations. For example, “Give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name: bring an offering, and come into His courts” (Psalm 96:8, KJV).

As we approach the end of this month, we are once more coming humbly before our Lord and making an offering. Since times are different and we live under a new law rather than under Mosaic Law, our offerings are not animals and blood. Rather, we offer up and surrender ourselves. We come into His courts and lay ourselves on the altar, surrendering our lives to the One who gave His life for us.

And through it all, He receives the glory, honor, and praise. He alone is worthy to be praised and He alone should receive the glory.

What can YOU do today to ascribe glory to His name? Pray over that question and meditate on some possibilities, then make it happen. Give Him all the glory and honor He deserves.
