Devotion: Reveleation 21:4

November 27, 2024

Revelation 21:4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

This has always been a verse that brought me hope for the future. I am a cry baby. I cry at everything, including crying with others who start crying. I used to see my emotions as a curse, something to be embarrassed about and I tried to hide my tears. This verse was one that gave me hope because the idea of no more tears, no more crying and emotional pain, as well as no more physical pain, was something that greatly appealed to me.

We know pain and sorrow are a given, that we will experience trials and tribulations. It is simply a part of all of our lives and cannot be avoided. Even Job, who was a righteous man in God’s eyes, experienced deep pain and sorrow.

But we know that there is a future where all of that will be no more. A future where our tears will be wiped away, our pains will be gone, our sorrows will be no more. A future that gives us great hope and joy. All of the negative aspects of our lives on earth will be finished and done away with.

Instead we will be with Christ and will be praising Him. We will worship Him. Our old lives will be gone. Our human bodies will be exchanged for new bodies. Anything that caused our tears is now gone, wiped away as our tears are. “Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.” (Psalm 30:5b, NLT)
