Romans 10:17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
One of my favorite verses for evangelism comes just a little earlier in this chapter of Romans. Beginning in Romans 10:13 it says, “…for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?”
Faith comes from HEARING the message of the Gospel. And if no one tells them, how will they hear? And if they do not hear, how will they believe? And if they cannot believe, how will they be saved? We MUST do our part and share.
Faith doesn’t just happen. It is not something that is just naturally going to appear. It comes as a response to hearing the Gospel. It is a choice made to receive or reject the message brought to us by believers. Hearing may come through people sharing one-on-one or sharing their own stories (testimonies), through sermons or messages spoken in church or church settings, through music, from reading the Bible, from reading books, etc. There are many ways one can hear the Gospel and learn more. But it all comes back to that choice made upon hearing it. Will it be received or rejected? Our prayer is that all would come to Christ, that all would believe and be saved. But we know that is not reality and some will ultimately refuse to hear it and accept Him.
Are you doing your part to share with others? We are all called to make disciples of all nations, to take the Word of God to them and share. Because as we saw in Romans 10:13 – how can they believe if they have not heard and how can they hear if no one is sent? YOU are the one who is being sent. You may not be sent to another country or another area, but you can still share. Your ministry can be to your own family, to friends, to your neighbors. The important thing is to obey and share because faith comes from hearing.
