Devotion: Romans 15:5-7

June 26, 2024

Romans 15:5-7 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted, in order to bring praise to God.

Everything we do should bring glory to God and show the world His great and mighty power and unending love. That includes loving others in the same way God loves us. Paul calls us to be of one mind, meaning we should be in agreement with each other and have the same goals. Are you so close to your friends that you have the same spiritual goals?

In the first sentence of today’s passage we see God’s gifts for us – endurance and encouragement. Other translations say patience and consolation. The Message says it like this: May our dependably steady and warmly personal God develop maturity in you so that you get along with each other as well as Jesus gets along with us all.

How comforting is that? Our steady and warmly personal God, who is patient and offers consolation, who encourages us and gives us endurance to push forward in all our efforts…. He truly loves us and provides for all of our needs. And it is through this that we should be imitators of God (Ephesians 5:1), of one mind with one voice that glorifies Him.

We are told to accept one another just as Christ accepted us, which also brings praise to God. Christ loved us despite our sins and past mistakes. Therefore we should do the same. We should love everyone regardless of what they have said and done. Doing so brings glory to God, as well as gives comfort to those you accept.

Today let’s join together in one mind and one voice to bring glory to God. Don’t let sin, fear, or doubt cloud your mind and keep you from fellowshipping with one another. Turn to God and raise your voices in sweet praise.
