Romans 5:1-2 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.
Until spending time studying today’s verse, there were things I missed. I have read this verse countless times, but now have a deeper understanding and appreciation for what is being said. Now here’s hoping I do it justice explaining what I learned.
We begin with the word therefore, so take a few minutes to read what came before so you understand the context. Jesus was delivered over to death to die for you and me. Because of this we have been justified through faith. We are not justified by the Law or by any works we can do. Justification is only through faith, which is what Paul had been explaining through the first four chapters of Romans.
But the next part is what was new to me today. We have peace with God through Jesus. We aren’t talking about a good feeling or calmness. We are talking about peace as in the end of war. We were once enemies of God through our sin and we are now called children of God. We once were engaged in active hostility and now we are heirs to eternity. Talk about a transformation!
I absolutely understand now why we boast in the hope of the glory of God! We can now rejoice in the future hope we have. We are secure. Our future is assured. No one can snatch us from His hand now that we are His. And that is truly a reason to celebrate, to shout about in glee, to boast.
Don’t be at war with God. Don’t let sin lock the doors of heaven on you. Be redeemed, be reconciled, become His child. Turn to Him today, repent of sins, end the battle you’ll never win, and be saved.
