Devotion: Romans 6:13

February 9, 2025

Romans 6:13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.

Sin is attractive in the ugliest of ways, which is why so many fall into the sin trap and struggle to get free. If it wasn’t attractive we wouldn’t be drawn to it and get caught up in the worldly and fleshly desires. Our challenge as believers is to turn away from those sins and surrender ourselves to God. And that challenge is truly a battle sometimes. But sometimes they aren’t all that noticeable, or we assume they aren’t all that bad. It is important to remember that sin is sin, no matter how big or little. It all separates us from His holiness.

But we have hope. We can overcome sin in our lives and not let any part of us be used as an instrument of wickedness. We do this by denying ourselves and turning to Him. It is through Him and His mighty power that we can be victors. We can turn away from the sins of life and turn to Him, offering ourselves as living sacrifices (Romans 12:1) because we have been brought from death (Romans 3:23) to life (Romans 6:23).  We died with Him and are raised up again, a new creation, no longer slaves to sin. He conquered death and wiped away all of our sins and we are now clean, an instrument of righteousness.

We need to learn how to live in Him and for Him. We must learn to offer ourselves in humble obedience to what He is calling us to. We choose to surrender our all, each day, sometimes many times over, giving every part of ourselves to Him. Every part must be surrendered, from our hearts to our eyes to our minds to our hands and feet to our bodies to our wills…

Let us choose to be instruments of righteousness. Surrender everything you are to God and celebrate the new life you have in the presence of our Father.
