Devotion: Titus 2:11

Oct. 5, 2025

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.

Today’s devotion took me some time to figure out. I had to really dig into the commentaries and still don’t know why I struggled so much with what to say, what direction to take this. But God was working in me, and I finally sat down to write.

Paul wrote the epistle to Titus, a worker in Crete who was left there to organize the churches and instruct them. Because of this, it is no wonder that we read about grace and salvation. That is foundational to our entire belief system. Without grace we have no salvation. Without salvation we have no hope. It MUST be included.

Most of the commentaries and devotions I have read combine this verse with others. But we are only looking at this verse on its own.

The grace of God appeared. A simple statement but it means the world to believers. Without Jesus we would have nothing. We would still be looking for atonement from sacrifices that don’t last and living under a Law that shows us just how short we fall of making it. I thank God I did not live in the times before Jesus came because through Him we have received grace, favor and kindness that we did nothing to earn it.

But the grace has been present from the beginning. God showed grace to Adam and Eve when they sinned. There were consequences for their sin, but they were not immediately put to death. He also showed favor to Noah when He brought the floods. He showed grace to Lot when Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed. And the stories go on and on. He showed grace to David who had a man murdered and stole his wife who he had impregnated in a one night stand when he was supposed to be out at war with his soldiers. Grace abounds. It is evident in all of the stories. It has appeared since the beginning, but was manifested physically in Jesus.

And that grace brings salvation to all people, just as it did to individuals we read about in the Bible. ALL people. That means you and me. We are part of that ALL. He has shown His grace in our own lives and we are saved by faith through grace (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Celebrate that grace. Celebrate the salvation you have received because grace appeared and allowed a means of salvation for everyone.
