School work, dances, football games, volleyball games, band practice, school clubs, spirit week, homework…..
Wait. Where is God in all of this?
Have you stopped lately and just thanked God for all you have, for all you do?
Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. November is a month when we tend to look upon things and say “thanks.” But why can’t we give thanks any other time?
We can! Stop right now. Grab a piece of paper. And just start listing things you are thankful for. I have found that when I am in a bad mood stopping and writing down all of the things I am thankful for, no matter how stupid and trivial, my entire attitude changes.
Check out this prayer by Tecumseh (if you don’t know who he is grab a history book and look him up).
“Give Thanks – When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength. Give thanks for your food and the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself. Tecumseh”
Kinda makes you think, doesn’t it? Thank God for your life, for being able to breathe, for being able to feel and touch, to be able to smell and taste, for seeing and hearing, thank Him for the fact that you can walk, that you can crawl, that you can move around…. thank Him for the things he has given you (in my list one time I even put down that I was thankful for Q-tips).
After making your list pray. Thank God. It is an eye opener to see how much He has given us and how little we thank Him for. Don’t take things for granted. Give thanks.
Give Thanks (song)
Give thanks with a grateful heart Give thanks to the Holy One Give thanks Because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son (repeat)
And now let the weak say I am strong Let the poor say I am rich Because of what the Lord has done For us (repeat)
Give thanks
