Go Ye Into All The World

by Jeramy Jennings

Matthew 28:19-20 says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (New King James Version)

This past week, I was able to take on the opportunity of doing this scripture. With another group that the UIC Outreach team often associates with, Cybersaints, I was able to co-host an evangelism session. My new friend Ginny and I started out a tad bit discouraged. Okay, so I was and she was perfectly sure of our opportunity! After prayer and giving people time to come in, we went to an Advice chatroom on Yahoo.

Now, let me tell you, if you even start talking about God, you have everyone down your throat in nearly 5 seconds. They say things like, “This is not a place for religion.” Even though I tried to convince them I was promoting religion, rather a relationship. They didn’t understand. Hmm…

Nevertheless, I think Ginny and I did a rather well job on hosting our first evangelism session. I can’t talk for her, but I’d like to co-host more sessions with her. We used a variety of different styles. The first style we used is what I’d like to call the direct approach. We basically came into the room and asked them if they believed in Jesus Christ. A few said yes, while most cut us down for talking about “religion” in a non-religious based chatroom. Maybe it was conviction? I hope so! Before 70 percent of them put us on their ignore list, we decided to move onto a different style. We planned on following their conversation, jump in, and when the time was right, bring up the topic of Jesus; although, it was very hard to jump into the conversation because they were discussing oral sex. That is not something I want to discuss openly with a bunch of stranger. Let alone discuss it at all. Since we saw this method wouldn’t take us far in this room, we decided to talk amongst ourselves. We asked each other how long we’ve been Christians, our favorite verse, and so on and so forth. This method worked the best yet. A few of them started to ask questions give their point of view and more. We were very pleased with the outcome of this method.

Then Satan had to come in and intervene. He decides to get Yahoo to kick me off. I was soon left with no way to communicate with my team. I tried to reconnect but it wouldn’t let me. I restarted my computer and it didn’t work either. After thorough prayer and anger, I was finally let on. Only to find out that my team had already left. Which I don’t blame them because we were nearly done and I was gone for a long time.

The next time you see that we are going to witness online, come join us. I announce all of them in Unity in Christ’s Outreach Team List. You can subscribe to that be sending an email to (NOTE: This list has been closed). I will be looking forward to seeing you there. Also, be in prayer for those who asked questions, as well as those who yelled at us.
