Grief

By Tierra Nichols

The preacher asks, “All God’s children please rise,” congregation rises. The preacher proceeds with alter call. He begins to address sins that the Spirit has been convicting you of. “If anyone needs prayer and deliverance form these things please come” ” You look around anxiously to see who is willing to go to front of church confessing their sins. None moves, your Spirit is urging you to move forward, but fear of being judged by others in the church consumes your mind. The battle between your Spirit and mind continue and your mind begins to grieve your spirit so, you stay at your seat missing out on deliverance from the sins the Lord is willing to free you from.

Grieving the Holy Spirit is common among young believers; it is a trick from the enemy that is holding many people back in progressing with the Lord. It’s where your sinful nature (mind) conflicts with your Spirit, and tries to discourage your walk with the Lord. Troubles that occur in your life that the Spirit has been trying to help free you from keep reoccurring because in you’re mind you think you can make them go away. You go to friends, family, books everywhere else to get help, never listening to your Spirit first.

“But now that you know God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles?” Galatians 4:9. The Lord had given us the ultimate Counselor when he left earth (and soon will be back) it’s his way of showing us love and comfort when distressed. When you obey the Spirit and live by it you’ll have peace of mind. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self- control.” Galatians 5:22. So, when you feel guilt and conviction in your heart know that is the Spirit know that is God in you, feel blessed and honored to have that conviction because it is the inheritance promised to us by the Lord. Stop and listen to what the Spirit is exposing to you, ” That is why I said the Spirit will take ! from what is mine and make it known to you…”John 16:15.

So, when you obey the Spirit and live by it that hostile and sinful nature that is controlling your thoughts and actions will be weakened. ” He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit , who lives in you.” Romans 8:11.
