Review:

I was not sure what the lesson would be when it came to reading about Harry Help-A-Lot. I kept thinking, “He is helping others already… what more can he do? What are going to be learning about?” Well, the lesson in this book was on helping others, but also on letting others help us. Harry got plenty of joy and satisfaction in helping others, but more than that he was helped in the end, which he didn’t really like at first.  But he learned to enjoy letting others help him.  So often we encourage our children to help, to help others. And, by all means, we need to continue to encourage this. But we also need to teach them how to graciously accept the help offered to us by others. I think my favorite feature in these books must be the culminating prayer and Scriptures that teach children that there is more to the story than just the story itself.  It is a wonderful way to encourage children to pray, offering them models and sample prayers they can make their own as well to lead them deeper into God’s Word to learn more. Harry Help-A-Lot is a nice example of helping others and letting others help you.
