Hypocrites

By: Mandy Hughett

What makes you a Christian?

Is it going to church? Being nice to people? Believing in God?

One more question. Do you know you are going to heaven?

For the past month or so I have been struggling with hypocrisy. I would go to church and worship God and then the next thing I know, I’m totally going against what I was doing. Now I have many reasons why I might be doing this in my head. But really, there is no excuse. You are either living for God or you aren’t. Why go to church if you are just going to go party afterwards? You can’t be a lukewarm Christian! Those are the worst. Why? They have one foot in the world and one foot in their spiritual life. When sinning, they feel guilty because they know they are doing the wrong thing. When worshipping God, they feel guilty because they know they lead another life. HYPOCRITS! Everyone sins. Romans 3:23 says “for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” But why do we do this on purpose? Why don’t we try to stop? If we do…why don’t we ask people to help us?

It is time to stop being hypocrites. Choose your life. Do you want to live in the world? Isaiah 38:11 states, “I will not again see the LORD, the LORD, in the land of the living; no longer will I look on mankind, or be with those who now dwell in this world.”

Or do you want to live for God?

If you chose to live for God, you have made an excellent choice. Now you may need help overcoming something that you might enjoy but need to sacrifice. For example, drinking, swearing, or simply being mean to people! Talk to someone about your problem. You can talk to your pastor, youth pastor, or a Christian friend. Anyone who will pray with you about this.

“I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws.” — Psalm 119:30

Some things that have been helping me with my Christian walk:

  • Surround yourself with Christians
  • Don’t listen to music that will bring you down
  • Stop watching movies that encourage violence, premarital sex, etc.
  • Worship God also in your free time
  • Pray
  • Have daily devotionals

Remember, YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD!
