I Have a Mission? What?

by Mandy Hughett

“My pastor has a mission. My youth pastor has a mission. A few other people in my church also have a mission. God has really blessed them.”

You are right. God really has blessed them. But he has also blessed you with a mission! Everyone on this earth has a purpose-a purpose that will serve God. Everyone has different purposes but everyone has the same point in mission work. What is mission work? Sharing the gospel to people who do not know Jesus Christ as their Savior.

Here are some tips to help you start sharing Gods word:

  • Pray: Ask God where he wants you to do mission work. Ask Him to give you the knowledge you will need to help you back up what you say. Ask Him to give you the words and the actions to glorify God.
  • Open your heart: Listen to what God is telling you. If you feel you should share the gospel with a specific person-do it. Honor God. Open your heart to Him and fulfill his desire for you.
  • The Bible: Read Gods word EVERYDAY! This will definitely come in use when you are sharing the glory of God! Try to memorize verses each week.

If you are not sure what God is calling you to do, start small! Pray for the people in your school and work place. If someone is in need of prayer for something specific-ask if you can pray for him or her.

Don’t think they will not allow you or that you will sound stupid. That prayer might just be what they need to accept Jesus into their heart! Ask someone if they might be willing to have a Bible study with you.

Invite someone to youth group with you.

If you want to start smaller that is fine as well. Invite someone to just hang out with you. Go roller-skating, shopping, “cruising,” or anything that might seem fun to the person you are going to ask! Let God come out through your acts! Then eventually you will be able to go further in mission work. Don’t worry about starting small. Everyone has to start somewhere!

There is absolutely NO reason for you not to be sharing Gods word! If you are afraid, ask God to help you overcome that fear. You really need to get over whatever reason it is you are not sharing the gospel.

God commanded each of us to go out and make disciples.

Not just your pastor – everyone, including YOU.

You may be the only Christian someone will ever know. Imagine that!

If you are having trouble sharing Jesus with someone – pray about it and ask someone else to pray for you as well. If you have any questions about sharing the gospel or how else you can get involved, ask your youth pastor or a leader in your church. As always, feel free to leave a comment after reading this and I will get back you as soon as possible.

Lord God, I thank you for everyone reading this today.
I just ask that you open their hearts to you. Help them to be a witness to you Lord this week and help them grow stronger in you, Lord. Lord God I ask that you fill them with the passion to do mission work in local areas as well as across the world. Help each of them make a difference and fulfill their new desire to bring more people into heaven. I ask that you bless each of them and be with them each day as they are a witness to you. I ask that you take away any fear they may have. In your awesome and mighty name I pray, amen.
