Review:

This was my first novel by author Laura Frantz and I found it to be a beautiful love story. I did find the pace a tad slower than I am used to, but the story was still engaging and captured my attention. I was a bit surprised to find the crisis in the book so deep in the reading, but everything leading up to it still intriguing. The characters came to life in my mind more and more with each page turned. I was unable to put it down and thought about it long after I finished reading for the day, a true testament to the talent of Frantz. I am a huge fan of historical fiction, especially of this time period (Colonial America before the Revolutionary War) and was impressed with the historical elements embedded with the romance. And to top it all off, there was a twist of suspense intertwined within. I absolutely adored the story, my imagination stirred by the words of a master writer. I now want to read more of her works! Her attention to detail may be distracting to some, but in my opinion it adds to the overall story making it more robust and believable. Upon finishing the book I found myself wishing there could be sequels involving some of the secondary characters – just a suggestion! It was a great read overall and one I recommend to fans of historical fiction and/or romance.
