T4JYM: Please tell our readers about the books you have written. Do you have a favorite book or series?

LE: I’ve written close to 70 books. I think my favorite series is the Blue Justice series. I really enjoyed researching and writing those. Although, I will say, the current Lake City Heroes series is running a close second.

T4JYM: Do you have any characters from previous books who hold a special place in your heart?

LE: Sure. There are a ton of them. But I really connected with Emily Chastain from Called to Protect. She was a real heroine in my eyes.

T4JYM: What comes next? Are you working on something new?

LE: I’m always working on something new. Book four in the Lake City Heroes series releases in August. It’s called Final Approach. Since then, I’ve written a couple of novellas and have started on the first book in the next series.

T4JYM: How much time and research goes into a book? And how do you ensure they are accurate?

LE: So much time and research! I’m constantly in research mode with every story. I have several friends in various branches of law enforcement so any time I have a question I can ask one of them. And I have FBI buddies who read and critique each and every book so I’m very fortunate in having those resources.

T4JYM: Will you describe your writing process, from the spark of an idea through writing it, editing, and finally to publishing?

LE: I’m not sure I have a process. Honestly, I kind of just wing it, to be honest. LOL! But I think the closest I come to a process is where I really think about the story for a few days, jotting down notes, brainstorming, getting to learn my characters, including the protagonist, then thinking about the suspense element. How can I keep the suspense high to give the reader the roller coaster ride they’ve come to expect? Then I do a rough outline – like so very rough – and get started writing that first chapter. As I write, I edit. And I just keep going, stopping to research, fix things, read through what I wrote the day before and then add to it. I keep doing that until I have enough words, then I go back and reread and try to make it all make sense! Then I send it off to my publisher and we go from there – editing, shaping it up and making it ready for the readers.

T4JYM: Where do you get ideas for your books?

LE: Ideas are all around us. I can take just about anything and turn it into a story. But television, movies, other stories, and the news – just to name a few – are all wonderful resources. Of course, real life things that happen can spark an idea and, when exaggerated, can make it into a book! Haha.

T4JYM: Please tell us how you came to be a Christian and how this has influenced your writing.

LE: I came to be a Christian as an 8-year-old child. I was raised in a Christian home and have loved the Lord ever since I can remember. Since the Lord is such an important part of my daily life, I can’t imagine leaving him out of my stories.

T4JYM: Besides writing books, tell our readers a little about you and the things that keep you busy.

LE: I do a lot of speaking and teaching at conferences all of over the country. I also do a lot of photography. I mostly do nature, landscapes, and wildlife, but enjoy doing family shoots too.

T4JYM: What is the book or series you are most proud of? Why?

LE: That’s a really tough question because I’m really proud of all of the stories. But I have to say that The Elite Guardians was amazing to research and write. I love those stories. The research was fascinating, and writing about strong, skilled female bodyguards who protect others while facing their own challenges was both exciting and inspiring. I love those stories because they blend action, suspense, and heart – showing resilience, teamwork, and faith in the face of danger.

T4JYM: Do you have a favorite Bible story or character in the Bible? Why?

LE: I love Esther because she exemplifies courage, faith, and purpose. Despite her fear and uncertainty, she stepped forward to fulfill God’s plan, risking everything to save her people. Her story is a powerful reminder that God places us exactly where we need to be ‘for such a time as this’ (Esther 4:14). She didn’t let fear stop her and that inspires me to trust God’s timing and purpose in my own life.

T4JYM: What are you currently reading? What types of books do you typically like to read?

LE: I love to read all things suspense – from current authors to authors who’ve been around for a while. But obviously, my favorite genre is romantic suspense. I do love historical as well. I’m not a HUGE fan of Women’s Contemporary, but still read it to keep up with what’s in the market. I enjoy non-fiction occasionally and should probably read more of it. Ha.

T4JYM: What advice would you give to someone interested in publishing their work?

LE: Keep writing, keep learning, and don’t give up. Publishing is a journey that requires patience, persistence, and a willingness to grow. Study the craft, seek feedback, and revise until your work is the best it can be. Research the industry – know your genre, your audience, and the publishing paths available. Rejections will come, but they don’t define your talent or future. Trust God’s timing, stay faithful to the calling, and write the stories only you can tell.

T4JYM: What advice would you give to the youth of this world?

LE: Stay true to who God created you to be. The world will try to define you, distract you, and discourage you, but your worth isn’t found in likes, success, or other people’s opinions – it’s found in Christ. Chase purpose over popularity, character over convenience, and faith over fear. You have a unique calling, and God has a plan for your life (Jeremiah 29:11). Trust Him, work hard, and never stop growing into the person He created you to be.

T4JYM: Any final thoughts you want to share?

LE: Thank you so much for having me! I appreciate the great questions.
