T4JYM: You have a few series you have written. What juicy tidbits can you tell our readers about each to entice them to check them out?
LHB: The Dive Team Investigations series is all about a law enforcement dive team. It turns out that unless you live near the ocean, most of the time the dive team investigators have other jobs in law enforcement, and they volunteer and train on their own time to do underwater investigations!
The Defend and Protect series is about the Secret Service. I had a contact at the Secret Service who volunteered hours of his time to help me brainstorm the general story ideas and to give me insight into how the Secret Service works.
The Gossamer Falls series is set in the mountains of Western North Carolina and revolves around a large family that I modeled off of my own extended family.
T4JYM: What is next for you? Are you working on something new? Anything different?
LHB: A little of the same and a little new! I’m working on a new romantic suspense series with new characters but near the town of my previous series, so there will be a lot of overlap of characters.
And in 2028 I’ll be releasing my first contemporary romance (no suspense).
T4JYM: How do you balance homeschooling your kids, supporting a special needs daughter, and still find time to write?
LHB: I don’t! Balance is a cool idea, but it doesn’t work in reality. The reality is that sometimes I lean heavily into my writing and my family knows that mom is busy! And then there are seasons where I can go weeks – sometimes months – without writing a word because I’m completely dialed into my family. Either way, I couldn’t do it without the support of my husband and the grandparents!
T4JYM: Let’s explore a few more favorites… What is your favorite: Food? Ice Cream? Drink? Color? TV show? Musician/Band? Hobby? Movie? Book of the Bible? Bible Verse? Worship Song?
LHB:
- My favorite food is chocolate.
- My favorite ice cream is chocolate. LOL!
- My favorite drink is Coke, but it’s followed closely by sweet tea and coffee.
- My favorit4 color is blue.
- My favorite hobby is reading but that’s followed by knitting and crocheting and cooking.
- I can’t pick a favorite musician or movie!
- My favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 41:10 – Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10 ESV
T4JYM: What is your favorite genre to read when you have downtime?
LHB: Romantic suspense!
T4JYM: What advice would you give to someone interested in publishing their work?
LHB: READ! Read everything. And be intentional about reading in the genre you want to publish. There’s no better way to internalize story concepts!
T4JYM: What advice would you give to the youth of this world?
LHB: Stay close to Jesus. Keep him the focus. No one will ever love you the way He does!
