Truly Addicting? Marijuana

by Trisha Bleau (Smith)

Is marijuana really addicting? Or are people just lying to you about the addicting nature of this drug to keep you from trying it? I am not a scientist or a doctor so I honestly cannot say for a fact whether it does or does not have addictive qualities to it.

But I CAN tell you that marijuana IS addictive – not the smoking, drug quality, but the feeling. It is the feeling that draws most people in and keeps them coming back for more. Getting high is fun. It is a trip, literally. And because the feeling is so enjoyable more and more people are trying it out and doing it again and again.

The fact remains that many people feel they are addicted to marijuana – whether they “need” it or not. There is a large number of people who check themselves in to drug clinics to seek help staying off of the drugs. You can do a simple search online for marijuana addiction and find tons of links to places offering help – clinics, centers, hospitals, organizations, counselors, etc. It is not hard to become addicted – whether the drug has an addictive quality to it or not.

So when someone tells you that marijuana is not addictive in any way you know for a fact that they are wrong. Otherwise you would not see so many clinics and self help groups available. They aren’t lying to you to keep you from doing it – they are protecting you by telling you the truth.
