Review:
I am a huge fan of historical fiction and prefer this genre over most others when it comes to selecting reading materials for myself. I love the learning aspect of the genre and how it can be woven into a fictional plot to teach you while simultaneously entertaining you. And Sarah Sundin’s latest historical fiction story is one that does both in an amazing way. I had no prior knowledge of the history of Jersey so I learned a lot from reading this story, as well as gained a greater respect for the area and timeframes in which it was written. Though I am a historical fiction fan, later history is not necessarily my favorite. I don’t typically like reading about World War I or II. But Sundin did a great job of engaging me with this story and drawing me in. She writes in a smooth, easy to read manner that leads readers seamlessly through the story. I didn’t find my mind wandering while reading, which often happens when I read stories from this era. And the romance was well balanced with the historical aspects. Neither felt like they overshadowed the other and together combined to create a story that was touching as well as informative. This was a very enjoyable read and is sure to be a favorite for fans of historical fiction and romance.
