Review:

This book came across my desk for review recently, one of the few secular books I get the chance to review. As I have said in other reviews, I am not a big fan of contemporary fiction, opting more for historical fiction or fantasy first. I did find the book to be an interesting read, though, with a story that leads the reader from page to page keeping them entertained. And while I do feel the author has great talent for writing and for weaving a story, I do not feel this book is appropriate for Christian youth to be reading. There was not only smoking and underage drinking (which is truly a reality in our world, but as Christians we are to be IN the world, not OF the world, set apart) within the book, but also no attempts to promote purity. The book did not elicit sexual feelings as a romance novel does, nor did it talk about sexual acts, but the girls did not strive to remain pure in their interaction with others. I did not get a wholesome feel from this book and I don’t believe it should be put in to the hands of Christians as it might have enough influence on their walk to draw them away from what is true, good, noble, and pure. I do not recommend it to Christians, especially to youth who see enough of these actions happening around them daily. They do not need to be entertaining themselves with the same acts in reading.
