T4JYM: Can you share a short testimony with our readers?
RW: As a young man I decided that I was not going to follow Jesus. I did not want to be a poor old pastor who did not have any fun. SO, I rebelled against God for the next 17 years. Don’t get me wrong, my parents had me in church every Sunday, I went to camp every year and I was a part of my youth group, but I was playing the game. There was no way I was going to be a boring Christian.
Then my world was rocked! At the age of 30, I began losing my vision. I was unable to do all the things that I wanted and I was mad. I had a huge conversation with God one day in my living room and, to make a long story short, I gave 100% of me to God and have been serving Him ever since.
But the wake of destruction ran deep. Before coming to the Lord, I went through two marriages and had a child. I tried to reconcile my first marriage (the one whit my son), but she found a new person and married him before things could be worked out. The second marriage was to a woman who has been in and out of several marriages, had many affairs while I was married to her, and will have nothing to do with God.
In the wake of all this disaster, I have become good friends with my ex-wife, her husband and have a great relationship with my son. God has really blessed us through our obedience to Him. She has been happily married to a Christian man for 10 years now. My son lives in a Christ-filled home and has a real relationship with God. We work hard at helping him stay on track and not getting stupid like his dad did.
God also amazed me and put my wife, Sonya, into my life. Short of swearing off women forever, I did not ever imagine that I would have a companion, partner, helpmate, and loving wife in my life. I thought for sure that I had messed all that up for good. But God had other plans for my life. He put the most wonderful woman I have ever met into my life. She has been my inspiration time and time again. She keeps me level headed and excited about the things God is doing in our lives. She has been a huge blessing in my life and I thank God for her everyday.
I know that I have had a messed up past. I was a great sinner. I have a tendency to throw all of my strength and abilities into whatever I am pursuing. But Praise God that He got a hold of me! Praise God for His Grace shown to me! I am a new creation in Christ. The old has gone and the new is here. I am throwing all of me into serving Him and He is blessing us as we go. God is Awesome!May God Radically Bless You Everyday!
T4JYM: What is the main focus in your ministry? Teens? The lost? The hurting? Why did you decide up on this as a focus?
RW: My Main Focus is on the Lost. Those who need to hear the message of Jesus. We have an appeal to all age groups. We minister to families. Our Purpose is “To reach the lost, challenge the convinced, and equip the committed.
T4JYM: Do you ever worry about getting caught up in the world of show biz? That success will change you?
RW: I am constantly checking my spirit. I never want to think of myself higher than I ought. I am only a messenger for Jesus. ALl I do and all I am is because of Him. I will never let a position in life elevate me. I exist to glorify God.
T4JYM: What kind of relationship do you maintain with your audiences? Do you fellowship with them? Or do you remain distant as the performer?
RW: We always interact with our audience. We spend as much time as we can with all those who come to watch us perform. We sign autographs until every person is satisfied. We pray with all those who desire prayer. I am a real person. I am no different than anyone else. Therefore, I will alsways be giving and sharing of my life with others.
T4JYM: Who do you look up to the most in life?
RW: I really look up to men like Luis Palau and Billy Graham. They have been in ministry for many years without a blemish. They stay above the boards in everything they do. They are true servants of our Lord Jesus. I want to be like that all the time. That is what I strive for and will always try to be.
T4JYM: Do you ever feel fear when you approach someone with the Gospel?
RW: Not really fear, but I do pray as I move toward them. I want to be sure to share in a way that is pure, simple, concise and clear. My hands are always cold and sweaty as I begin to speak. But as the Spirit of God takes over, I get into the zone. There is no place I would rather be than in the middle of God’s will for my life.
T4JYM: Are you involved in your own home church? What role do you have there?
RW: I am a volunteer staff Pastor at my church. I work with our youth department, as well as, preach, teach our adults and our children. I am open to do whatever God wants me to do. I am also the Head of our Evangelism Board.
T4JYM: Are you involved in any other ministries?
RW: Yes, I also work with Dr. Brad Tuttle and Team Xtreme. We both have the same kind of ministry. I travel quite a bit with him overseas.
T4JYM: Do you have an accountability partner or prayer partner to keep you encouraged and uplifted?
RW: Yes. I believe this is a key part of the Christian life. My wife is one of my accountibility partners and prayer partners, but I also have our Music Minister, and 3 of my team mates who I am accountable to. They also pray for me and encourage me as do I to them.
