T4JYM: Do you ever get criticized for your work?
RB: No, everyone is supportive of my writing. On occasion I meet a man who chuckles softly and says he doesn’t read romance, but that is okay, because he is not my target audience. My family is terrific. My small dog gets irritated sometimes when I won’t play with her–she jumps up and puts her paws on the keyboard.
T4JYM: Who do you look up to the most in life?
RB: Jesus. After Him, my husband of almost fourteen years.
T4JYM: What is the message you wish to share with your audience as they are reading your books?
RB: That God has a plan for each of us, that a one-man-one-woman relationship resulting in the creation of a family is possible for everyone. That we all struggle, but it’s possible to overcome the obstacles in our lives as long as we keep God in focus.
T4JYM: How has this book been received by the general public? Has there been positive/negative feedback?
RB: My upcoming release “From Now On,” hasn’t become available yet. The reviews I have received so far have been great! This story ecompasses ‘forgiveness’ as its theme, and the heroine is actually the villian in my last book, “Cougar Lake.” She has a lot to make up for in this story and must seek the forgiveness of her family, and the hero.
T4JYM: Who have been your biggest influences in your writing career?
RB: Other inspirational authors including Francine Rivers, Deb Raney, Loree Lough, Robin Lee Hatcher, Karen Kingsbury and so many others.
Writing organizations such as RWA (Romance Writers of America) and ACRW (American Christian Romance Writers) have been of great help, and I try to volunteer and give something back to these wonderful groups.
T4JYM: What are your next plans for writing?
RB: I have just started a new story. I am trying a new subgenre of the romance field–romantic suspense. I also continually write articles for writing publications such as Spiritledwriter.com, The Christian Communicator and Advanced Christian Writer. I also write devotionals when
possible– for anthologies such as God’s Way for Teens, Chocolate for Women and Cup of Comfort for Christians.
T4JYM: What is generally your target audience for your books?
RB: Women of all ages, interests and beliefs.
T4JYM: What advice would you give to someone interested in publishing their works?
RB: If you have never written seriously, visit my website and read the “Interested in Writing?” page. It’s so important to read extensively in the field you wish to write in. You also need to practice–as in any new field, your first efforts won’t be of publishable quality.
T4JYM: When did you start writing?
RB: I’ve always written short stories, in fact my mother still has one I wrote in the second grade. It’s on lined paper, written with those fat pencils you use in elementary school. I became serious after I graduated from college. After taking classes on weekends for so many years (and working full time) I turned my study-time into writing time.
