Review:

When I opened the package and pulled out this book I was not sure what to think. I thought, “How do I review a handbook written for a specific denomination?” As I began to flip through it I began to smile. Before long my husband and I sat together giggling ridiculously over the humor contained within this small book. We couldn’t get enough of it. Yet despite the extreme tongue in cheek humor that tickled us to pieces we agreed that we really did learn a lot from the book. I love the fact that though the book was humorous it did still contain fundamental truths of our faith. The page before the title page even pointed out that “even though theology is serious stuff, we should nonetheless remember that it is not our theology that saves us, but Jesus Christ. Therefore, our life in the church can be buoyant, and our theological wranglings can be done with a sense of humor and love for our neighbor.” It covers topics like, “How to defend your faith against attack,” “The Apostles Creed,” includes tons of charts, maps, and comparisons. But it also includes humor like, “How to Pass the Plate” and “What to Bring to a Potluck (By Region).” I laughed so hard. It was a great book that kept me on my toes, completely unaware that I was being educated while reading. A wonderful book that I can’t wait to read again.
