The Need for Christ

Even in a Christian School
By: Christina Peters

I attend an amazing Christian School in Knoxville, TN. Coming from up north, I know when people think of Tennessee they think of “mountain people”– all I can say is get that thought out of your mind because it isn’t true for most parts in Knoxville.

As a Junior and a new student, it’s hard for me to comprehend that many of the kids that have gone to this school since Kindergarten have no clue who God is. I am not saying I know all there is to know about God. I’ve never met anyone who does; but I am saying that I have tasted and seen a bit of His awesomeness. To be honest, I wonder why.

If remote tribes in Africa can learn about Christ – without the help of missionaries then certainly it’s possible for my generation in America to live a life that honors Christ. I’m not saying it will be easy, and I am not saying I know all that entails. But I am saying, it’s possible.

The south is notorious for “The Bible Belt.” Yet, Bibles are left on the shelves, prayers are forgotten, and Sunday church truly remains just that Sunday church.

Is it true that my generation is lost, hurting, abandoned and misled? Yes, but that can be changed. God doesn’t tell us to look in the world for answers; we are to look to Him, the Maker of all.

I must say this, as hundreds of us gather for chapel once a week in my school, worship begins and I struggle just to lift my hands to my Savior. I stand there singing of how amazing He is; yet, I can’t understand why my hands won’t reach up to Him. Fear of embarrassment maybe? Well, that just seems very pathetic on my part! Picture this, I am in a Christian school and I can’t lift my hands in worship?!? How does that work out? It doesn’t work.

Listen friends, we aren’t here to be average or normal – we are here to be worshipers, world changers, transformers, servants as well as leaders for the Glory of God. The only thing you have to do is Trust God, tell Him you want to be who He wants you to be in Him. You better get ready – Knoxville is on the verge of a spiritual revolution!
