Of Superchic[K]

T4JM: How has the band been doing lately? I hear you’re out on tour now?
Tricia: Yes, we’ve been doing well, out on tour with ZoeGirl, Joy Williams, and other artists for the Free Experience Tour, We’ve been writing too, working on stuff to get us ready to go back to the studio to work on our next album.
T4JM: What has been the highlight of this past year for Superchic[k]?
Tricia: You know, we’ve been around for 5 years now, and we get pretty worn out, We’ve traveled around a lot and I think in this past year the highlight has been the time off that we’ve had, time to just recharge. God knew we needed that. So we were well rested and it was good to get back in to church again. Umm, also it’s been great to now be out on tour and have so many families come out to our shows, that’s almost like the theme of our tour now, we have so many families coming out and it’s encouraging. It’s what you need to stay on the road.
T4JM: How did the band come together?
Tricia: My sister and I met some guys at an amusement park, it’s called King’s Island, there was a Christian Festival going on there, and we had tickets for my birthday. A bunch of bands were there, the Newsboys, Church of Rhythm (I don’t know if you’ve heard of them) and we ended up meeting with Max, a manager, he was kind of talking to us about our band and asked us if we sang. He took down our info and 6 months later we heard back from him, which was something we never expected. It was totally God’s timing. We met the rest of the band through friends of friends. We grew up singing and had a lot of opera training, so that was a big help.
T4JM: What type of audience do you try to reach the most in terms of age group? Christian/non-Christian?
Tricia: Teens mostly, but also younger kids. We had one parent tell us that her 3 year old girl heard Barlow Girls and said she was going to stop kissing her little friends. It was very cute. We were touched that our songs could have that kind of influence.
T4JM: Do you consider yourselves role models?
Tricia: I think so, yeah. Any time you’re given a platform, God gives you that opportunity, and you are whether use it or not. I do think God has put us in a place where kids can look up to us. Just as long as they are striving after God.
T4JM: What kind of image do you want portrayed for Superchick?
Tricia: Um…individuals whose desires are to be like God, bringing Him glory, I would pray that that’s how we portray ourselves.
T4JM: Give us your definition of a “Barlow Girl” from your hit song.
Tricia: Well we wrote about actual sisters, they were girls around the age of 14 and 19 who were very much and still are, innocent, they have a desire to seek God’s will. They’re comfortable with what they’ve been given, and their heart’s desire is to be beautiful in God’s eyes, not to the world. To be who God created them to be. The Barlow Girls are an actual band now actually, they signed with a record company and are going out on tour.
T4JM: What advice would you give to teens who are trying to live a pure lifestyle in a world where purity is ridiculed?
Tricia: Keep your eyes on God, it’s hard but He says to flee from evil and sexual immorality. You need to be willing to sacrifice. If you don’t feel convictions, ask for them. Desire isn’t to please people around you, it’s more fulfilling to be pleasing to God. Make sure to have lots of support and people praying for you.
T4JM: If your latest album, Regeneration, could be summed up in two or three adjectives to describe what we can expect from your music-what would they be?
Tricia: Umm… wow three words….I’d have to say… emotional… inspiring… and fun. Each song comes on its own. It’s kind of a mixture of Regeneration and old stuff, and different than what we’ve ever done.
T4JM: What can we be expecting from Superchic[k] in the near future?
Tricia: Well check us out on tour! We love to meet our fans. We’ll be promoting our new album, Regeneration, and hopefully working on more stuff.
