Unity in Your Youth Group

by Jeramy Jennings

What is unity? I’ve hear people talk about it but what is it?

First off, let’s get the technical definition.

Unity, n. – The condition of being united or combined; oneness.

Let’s go further and break that big word down. Uni – one (oneness). That means everyone is in agreement and no one is “out of line.”

Ephesians 4:3-4 (New Living Translation) tells us, “Always keep yourselves united in the Holy Spirit, and bind yourselves together with peace. We are all one body, we have the same Spirit, and we have all been called to the same glorious future.”

This tells us that we should always be united with or fellow Christians.

My Youth Group has recently gone through some tough times. There has been many insults flying back and forth across the room. Being only a group of 8 – 9 people, there is many things that everyone knows to use against someone. The youth leader even told them of someone who got up and left because of all the negativity. This is not what God wants. He wants us all to be united as one body, one Spirit, for Him.

Is your Youth Group united?

Do you feel that because you are not united that God has held back? What can YOU do to help your Youth Group become united as one?

What to Do

First, the only way to make change is if you, yourself changes first. You can not tell others that they are not in unity when you are not either.

Secondly, talk to your Youth Pastor/Director. Tell them you think that there is no unity. Ask them for ways that together you can help.
