I am a huge fan of historical fiction and am always looking for the next good read. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to read this book and am pleased to report that it did not disappoint! Not only does it do a great job of bringing the past to life and teaching readers about late 1800s California, but it also added elements of adventure, suspense, and romance. Connealy does a great job of creating characters that readers can relate to, making them believable and interesting. And best of all, there was an amazing undercurrent of faith woven throughout. She does a remarkable job of demonstrating Christian faith and beliefs without it being overbearing or preachy. It flows naturally within the story. As for story plot, Connealy masterfully crafts an adventure that leaves the reader on the edge of their seat. It was a page turner from the very beginning. I found it to be an exciting read and finished it a lot faster than I usually do since my life is so busy and finding time to read is sometimes challenging. This is the first book in a new series and already it looks promising! I am looking forward to the next book. If you are looking for a new read and enjoy historical fiction and historical romance, give this book and series a try. It won’t disappoint!
