The Words We Use

By Matt Dowdell

We have many words or phrases that we use these days that sounds good But do we really pay attention to what they mean. I realized this listening to a song by AVB. It was called “you can’t go to church”. It is a very interesting song and makes alot of sense. In this study I will share lyrics from the song and information that I have looked up and found my self.

The first word I will go over is the word “Religion”. Webster Dictionary defines religion as a system of faith and worship. I found that very interesting. Because we have all these religions that claim to have a Christian origin. But I have found with the help of other people and my own personal studies that the only thing religion does is split up all of the Christians. When you start classifying Christians you mess up, because the word Christian means “Christ like”. Of course every Christian knows that Jesus was the Christ. So how can we classify Jesus under a religion. If Jesus believed in religion so much he would have said you have to be this type or that type. Which would defiantly not make sense if you think about it. What I’m about to say might offend a few people but when you deal with this subject thats gonna happen, so please accept my apologies. I think we should drop religion and all of these separate beliefs and become the church that the Bible talks about. The bible says that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. Which by makingseparate belief systems we are making several different families. Which doesn’t add up correctly.

The next thing is a phrase that we all have said at one point in our life. I’m not saying there is really anything wrong with it but it is not full correct. The phrase is anything you say that has the words “go to church” in it. I don’t know if you have actually thought about this before, but what does those three words really mean? What is the church? The church is us. All Christians put together create the “church” that the bible preaches. The church that we refer to today is a place, a building, or a structure that we worship in and learn in. Here are some of the words from the song I mentioned earlier.

You can’t go to church as some people say the common terminogly we use everyday you can go to a building that is some thing you can do but you can’t go to church cus the church is you.

It makes sense doesn’t it. Don’t misunderstand me in this I believe that what we call church is a wonderful thing and I recommend it to anyone who hasn’t tried it. If you can, find a good one with good biblically sound morals then I see nothing wrong with it. But the words we use today sound kinda odd don’t they.

Some people use the phrase “born again Christian”. When we hear it we don’t say anything because we don’t realize how pointless of a term it is. How else can you be a Christian unless we are born again. The term sounds so nice and suiting we don’t question it’s meaning.

I know I sound like a guy who just loves to criticize things. But thats not true this is just something I stumbled upon. There are not really anything with words or phrase that I talked about here, I just found it interesting that the meanings of the words we use so much but yet don’t even think about their meaning. I’m sorry if I offend anyone with my discussion on religion. Please forgive me and don’t hold it against me. This little study off words was just for funny and I thought I would share it with all of you. Hope you enjoyed it.
