By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:35
Did you know that you don’t have to be able to preach to tell others about the good news? Evangelism is just as much a lifestyle as it is a verb. Just like they say that worship is a lifestyle. What do I mean?
What I mean is what a lot of people have been saying. You are God’s message to the world. You are their “Living Bible”. You have a life to live and you have a story to share. That story – your life story or testimony – is what can bring or repel someone from Christ. Sometimes we live under the fallacy that once we are saved, we are saved and don’t need to do anything else. But from salvation we are called to discipleship and that means taking up your cross and following Christ. Not living in the same comfort of the world.
Just becoming a “Christian” and not changing from your old, sinful ways is not only “bad” for you, it’s bad for others too. You are not growing, and at the same time, you may be hindering others from believing in Christ as well. Why do you think people say there are so many hypocrites in the church? Because there are so many people who just attend church, and say that they are Christians, but do not know Christ. In effect, they’re being a stumbling block to those who may have once been interested to know more about Christ.
Guess what the Bible says about stumbling blocks? “If anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around his neck.” [Mark 9:42] A little harsh wouldn’t you say? If you cause someone else to sin, if you stop them from living a good Christian life, or from coming to know God, you will be held accountable.
But at the same time, I’m don’t mean ! that you have to be super perfect. Everyone makes mistakes, and I know that we’re all still growing. But sometimes it just has to be a conscious effort to do right.
Your testimony makes a difference. For all you know, your little act of kindness now might be the final “straw” that makes your friend’s decision to follow Christ.
