Hebrews 12:15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
Sometimes the verses I select for the devotions raise a lot of questions in my mind. Today’s is one of those verses I really had to dig deep in and seek out more information before writing it.
When I first read this verse, I found myself asking, “How does one fall short of the grace of God?” In trying to understand it more, I learned that it is a warning to believers not to miss out on receiving grace from God.
So then it made me wonder, “Can a believer lose the grace they have been given? And if so, how?” And the answers I found all said yes, you can forfeit the grace and blessings He has bestowed on you. We won’t go into the debate of whether or not you can lose your salvation but some say yes, when you forfeit the grace you lose your salvation, while others say you only lose the blessings He gives until you return to Him, repent, and start living for Him once more.
As for how, AI says: “You can “lose your grace” through actions like turning away from your faith by trusting in your own works rather than a higher power, attempting to earn salvation through rituals or law, or engaging in behaviors considered sinful, such as idolatry, hatred, or other works of the flesh.”
Regardless of HOW, I don’t want to lose it and I am sure you don’t either. Take some time to look at your life. Are you living for Him? Or are you trying to achieve things on your own? Don’t forfeit your grace by trying to do things on your own. Don’t turn away from your faith or get distracted by the world around you. Trust in Him. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Light.
